Avista’s 4th Annual Charity Golf Tournament to benefit the youth of Sanders County 4-H
Public invited to silent auction starting Aug. 8

Aug. 6, 2012: Avista’s4th Annual Charity Golf Tournament to raise awareness of the needs of Sanders County residents will benefit the Sanders County
4-H. Avista will hold the four-person scramble at the River’s Bend Golf Course in Thompson Falls, Saturday, Aug. 18 at 9:30 a.m. MDT.

The 4-H, a 501(c)(3) tax-exempt charity, is the largest out-of-school youth development program in the state, reaching about 25,000 young people in Montana each year. Through the caring support of adult volunteers and mentors, nearly 180 Sanders County youth are inspired to work collaboratively, take the lead on their own projects and set and achieve goals with confidence.

Tim Swant of Avista and Sarah Naegeli of the Sanders County 4-H are co-chairing the tournament. 4-H has been active in helping to organize this year’s tournament, which features a local silent auction that is open to everyone, including those not playing in the tournament.

“Two key ingredients in the success of the event are the involvement of the benefitting organization and the support of the broader community,” Swant said. “Sanders County 4-H has championed this year’s event, and we’re hopeful we’ll exceed last year’s total of more than $11,000 in funds raised for another deserving local charity.”

Registration for the golf tournament filled quickly this year, but people can still participate in supporting 4H through the silent auction. The silent auction will feature donated packages and items such as a three-night stay at Pend Oreille Shores Resort, a floor jack donated by Pickups Plus, passes to Stone Ridge Golf Course, memberships to local athletic clubs and many gift certificates.

“The Sanders County 4-H community, from Heron to Lonepine, has been excitedly working on the tournament,” said Meghan Phillippi, MSU 4-H Extension Agent in Sanders County. “Members and leaders have been busy securing sponsors and prizes, which we hope will help to make a great experience for the golfers. Everyone is very appreciative of this opportunity to raise additional funds to support 4-H and create opportunities for the youth of Sanders County.”

Silent auction bidding commences at noon on Aug. 8 and runs through Aug. 17. Bidders can view silent auction items and place their bids at the Thompson Falls Public Library, 911 Main St. Thompson Falls, Mont. or at the Rocky Mountain Bank, 108 East Railroad Ave. Plains, Mont.

To reflect the highest bid on a single item simultaneously, silent auction officials will update the bid cards periodically. The auction will close at 2 p.m. MDT, Saturday Aug. 18, 2012 at the Avista Charity Golf Tournament. To offer support by donating prizes, volunteering or sponsoring the event, contact Swant at 406- 847-1282 or Naegeli at 406-827-4887.
