The Lake Pend Oreille School District is set to receive over $100,000 in energy efficiency incentives from Avista for installing new high efficiency equipment in district facilities.
By installing demand-controlled heating and ventilations systems in all 11 school sites, the district will reduce its annual energy costs by over $26,000 and save enough electricity to power 15 homes for one year and provide natural gas to 27 homes.
Demand-controlled ventilation measures the approximate number of people in a space and resets the air intake based on the current occupancy instead of having the air intake rates set at all times for maximum occupancy.
“Since all schools in our district are scattered throughout the eastern part of the county, it was important for us to manage our multiple sites in a way that would save district funds spent on energy costs and that would cut long hours of staff drive time,” said Sid Rayfield, facilities manager for the Lake Pend Oreille School District. “With the help of Avista’s incentive program, the upgrades gave us the chance to efficiently and effectively manage our building systems and operations.”
Rayfield and Ralph Dillard, HVAC maintenance specialist for the Lake Pend Oreille School District, will receive Avista’s energy efficiency incentive check for $107,145 on Friday, March 5, at 10 a.m., at Sagle Elementary School. Presenting the check will be Sharmon Schmitt, an Avista commercial-industrial customer account executive.
“The energy efficiency steps we take today will provide benefits for years to come. That’s why Avista commends the Lake Pend Oreille School District for their commitment to reducing energy use and making their operations more efficient,” said Bruce Folsom, Avista’s director of energy efficiency.
Avista offers a variety of energy efficiency rebates, incentives and other energy management tools for residential, commercial and industrial customers. For over three decades Avista has offered the tariff-based programs because generally it costs less to help customers reduce their usage through energy efficiency programs than to acquire additional, more costly energy resources.
