Avista Contributes $200,000 for Emergency Energy Assistance
Support for Avista’s Project Share Fund will help provide aid this heating season


A $200,000 donation has been made to Avista’s Project Share Fund for emergency energy assistance to aid eastern Washington and northern Idaho residents during this winter heating season.


Managed by SNAP and other community action agencies in eastern Washington and northern Idaho, Project Share provides emergency energy assistance to qualifying households that have exhausted other avenues of aid, regardless of the fuel used to heat the home. Recipients of Project Share assistance do not have to be Avista customers.


 “Avista and our employees have a strong commitment to our communities and to the residents who find themselves in difficult circumstances. Our energy assistance programs, including Project Share, are important parts of our community partnership,” said Dennis Vermillion, president of Avista Utilities.


During the 2008-2009 winter heating season, over $700,000 was contributed to Avista’s Project Share Fund by customers, employees and the company.


Area residents who would like to support Project Share this year can do so by adding the amount they want to donate to their energy payment and write that amount in the Project Share line on their energy utility bill.


In addition to Project Share, several other programs for qualifying customers needing energy assistance are either sponsored or administered by Avista, including the Low Income Rate Assistance Program (LIRAP) for customers in Washington and Oregon. Under the LIRAP Program, funds collected from customers through a specific dollar amount approved by the state commissions are provided directly to community action agencies to assist customers with their energy bills. The company also sponsors programs such as the Customer Assistance Referral and Education Service (CARES), Senior Energy Conservation Workshops and, in Washington, the Senior Energy Outreach Program.


Avista offers a number of billing options, energy efficiency programs, incentives and rebates to help customers proactively manage their electricity and natural gas consumption. In addition, Avista’s Comfort Level Billing option gives customers the opportunity to smooth seasonal energy bill highs and lows by averaging energy bills over 12 months.
