Spokane, Wash.: Avista Corp. (NYSE: AVA) and the Idaho Heritage Trust have announced the awarding of five community preservation grants for projects within Avista’s northern Idaho service territory. Receiving the grants were:

. Oden Busy Bees, Oden, Idaho, for painting the Community Hall - $1,500

. Westwood Historical Society, Rathdrum, Idaho, for continued historical restoration of the former Kootenai County Jail - $1,500

. North Idaho Early Childhood Education Program, Lewiston, Idaho, for an adaptive reuse plan for the North Idaho Children’s Home, or Hurlbutt Mansion - $4,000.

. Washington, Idaho and Montana Railroad Historic Preservation Group, Potlatch, Idaho for the return of a 1907 caboose owned by the railroad to Potlatch, Idaho, from Farmington, Wash. - $1,400

. White Springs Ranch Museum, Genesee, Idaho, for re-roofing the Lorang Farm House - $1,450

The funds awarded are earnings from the sale of property donated to the Idaho Heritage Trust in 1993 by Avista. In 1997 the Trust sold the donated Lime Point property, an important wildlife habitat located near Lewiston, Idaho, to the Nature Conservancy with the proceeds from the sale retained and invested by the Trust. The annual interest from the investments is awarded each year by Avista and the Trust to projects preserving northern Idaho’s important historical buildings, artifacts and archeological sites located within Avista Utilities’ Idaho service territory.
