Spokane, Wash., January 11// -- Avista Utilities crews have made significant progress in restoring power to the approximately 11,000 customers who were without service early this morning following a series of storms that hit the region over the past two days. At 10:30 a.m. today, a total of 3,081 customers remain without power in the following areas:

Coeur d'Alene – 483
Hayden-Pend Oreille – 246
Kellogg – 446
Sandpoint – 230
Deer Park/Loon Lake – 578
Spokane area - 820
Colville – 220
Scattered - 58

Today's work continues to focus on making repairs that restore service to the largest number of customers at one time. The next priority is restoring service to small groups of customers on lines that extend outward from more densely populated areas. Restoring service to single residences is the final step in the restoration process. At this time there is no estimate on when power will be fully restored; however, Avista crews will continue working until all service is restored.

During a Power Outage
Avista's main focus is to restore power to customers as quickly and safely as possible. To aid customers and crews during outages, Avista suggests customers take the following steps:

. Turn off and unplug any unnecessary electrical equipment, especially sensitive electronic equipment, even if you have surge protectors.
. Set heating thermostats at lowest possible temperature.
. Turn on a porch light so repair crews and you will know when power is restored to your home.
. Do not cook indoors with charcoal or other fuels or cook on items not meant for indoor use, such as a grill. They can create deadly fumes if used indoors.
