Avista Crews Respond to Winter Storm
With more snow forecasted, Avista is prepared to respond to outages and urges safety

Spokane, Wash.: SPOKANE, Wash. – Jan. 9, 2008, 11 a.m.: Last night’s snowstorm is to blame for early morning power outages affecting about 3,400 customers scattered throughout Avista’s service territory. As of 11 a.m., power has been restored to 85 percent of Avista customers impacted by the storm.

With more heavy snow and winds predicted, Avista is prepared to respond. Avista urges safety and preparedness in the event of power outages. The only thing more important than the prompt restoration of service is the safety of our community and our employees.

Stay away from downed lines. Never touch or attempt to remove fallen limbs from downed or sagging power lines. Treat all power lines as if they are energized or are carrying electrical current. Also, keep all children and pets away from the area. Remember to call Avista immediately at (800) 227-9187 to report the location of the downed power line.

Be prepared for power outages, they can occur unexpectedly. Keep emergency supplies on hand, including flashlights with fresh batteries, a portable, battery-powered radio, a wind-up or battery-powered clock, water and nonperishable food, and a manual can opener.

Remember, cordless phones, garage openers and other commonly used equipment will not work without electricity, so have a back-up plan. And protect sensitive electric equipment, such as computers, VCRs and televisions, by installing surge protectors or other power protection devices.
To report a power outage, please call Avista at (800) 227-9187 to let us know. Our phone system is updated regularly to provide you with the most current outage information.
