Avista Crews from Outside Spokane Assist in Restoration Work

Spokane, Wash., June 23// -- Avista has dispatched six additional crews from Coeur d'Alene and Deer Park to assist its Spokane area crews in restoring service to the 750 customers in the Spokane area who remain without service as a result of Tuesday night's severe weather.

The crews from outlying areas had to complete service restoration to more than 11,000 customers in their communities before joining the Spokane team. Avista's crews from Davenport and Othello have also aided in the restoration work.

As of 4:00 p.m. today, the breakdown of the remaining outages is as follows:
Central Spokane – 85
East Valley – 39
North Spokane – 16
North Central Spokane – 40
Spokane Valley – 264
South Hill – 255
West Plains – 51

This phase of the restoration process is the most labor intensive for crews as the widely scattered outages are in neighborhoods with each incident affecting a small number of customers. The outages that remain at this time generally involve extensive damage from trees coming into contact with power lines and poles. In many instances, service restoration involves both tree-trimming and electric service personnel and is quite time consuming.

Crews and support personnel will continue working around the clock until service has been restored, which could be Friday evening for some customers.
