Avista is providing over $52,000 in energy efficiency incentives to the Ashland School District for the recent installation of high efficiency boilers at Ashland Senior High and Bellview Elementary.
Because the new boilers are at least 90 percent efficient, the district will save almost $24,000 annually in natural gas costs and reduce their usage by almost 18,500 therms. That’s the amount of natural gas used in about 27 homes in a year.
“In November of 2006, the Ashland community approved a $48 million school facilities bond. One of the goals of our bond program was to replace our aging infrastructure with energy efficient, green solutions. This is a great example of that work, and it will both help the environment and the district’s operational costs for years to come,” said Ashland Schools Superintendent Julie Di Chiro. “We appreciate our partnership with Avista. The Ashland community can be proud of the work the district has done to reduce our energy consumption for years to come.”
The Board of Trustees for the Ashland School District will receive Avista’s energy efficiency incentive check at their meeting on Monday, December 14, at 7:00 p.m. Presenting the check will be Steve Vincent, Avista’s regional business manager for Oregon.
“The Ashland School District is to be commended for their leadership in energy and environmental concerns. Because of their efforts, the district will now be able to redirect some of their energy budget back to the classroom, and Avista is proud to have been a partner in that effort,” Vincent said.

Avista offers the tariff-based programs because generally it costs less to help customers reduce their usage through energy efficiency programs than to acquire additional, more costly energy resources to meet the growing energy needs of customers.
