Avista Helps Lakes Middle School Save Energy and Dollars
Energy efficient remodel qualifies for more than $76,000 in energy efficiency incentives

Avista is providing $76,501 in incentives to Lakes Middle School in the Coeur d’Alene School District for energy efficiency improvements incorporated into the school’s recent remodel.

Upgrades to the 1950s-era building will save the school over $58,000 a year in energy costs by saving 438,000 kilowatt hours (kWh) of electricity and over 34,000 therms of natural gas a year. That’s enough to power 36 homes for a year and provide natural gas service to 44 homes.

Qualifying energy efficiency improvements made to the school include installing a new high efficiency HVAC system, saving about $38,000 a year in energy costs, and installing higher-efficiency lighting and LED exit signs for $3,385 in energy cost savings a year. Additional improvements include adding new roof insulation, saving almost $7,000 a year in energy costs, and replacing wall insulation and windows, creating almost $10,000 in combined energy cost savings

"Our ongoing partnership with Avista not only saves taxpayers dollars, but it enhances the learning environment for our students. We are fortunate to have such business and community support," said Coeur d'Alene School District Superintendent Hazel Bauman.

The Board of Trustees for the Coeur d’Alene School District will receive Avista’s energy efficiency incentive check at their meeting on Monday, Nov. 2, at 5 p.m. Presenting the check will be Sharmon Schmitt, Avista’s commercial and industrial customer account executive for Coeur d’Alene.
