Avista Kicks off Anniversary Celebration with Benefit Golf Tournament
Four-person scramble will benefit Sanders County Community Housing Organization

To kick off the celebration of 50 years of producing clean, renewable hydropower at Noxon Rapids Dam, Avista will host a charity golf tournament Saturday, Sept. 12, 2009 benefitting the Sanders County Community Housing Organization (SCCHO). The four-person scramble tournament will be held at the Rivers Bend Golf Course in Thompson Falls, and is the first of several upcoming events to commemorate the 10th anniversary of the Clark Fork Settlement Agreement and the 50th anniversary of the Noxon Rapids Hydroelectric Dam.

SCCHO is a 501(c)(3) tax-exempt charity that promotes the availability of affordable housing for low to moderate income residents in Sanders County, offers weatherization for home owners that qualify, and operates the Senior Home Repair program for elderly and disabled home owners.

Tim Swant of Avista and John Gallaher of SCCHO are co-chairing the inaugural tournament.

“Organizing the tournament is a way to say thanks to the community and raise awareness of the needs of Sanders County citizens,” Swant said. “We’re looking forward to a fun, well-attended tournament that will raise a substantial amount of money for a deserving organization.”

Gallaher agreed, adding that the tournament is just one example of Avista’s commitment to being a good neighbor.

“Avista is a very community-minded company, always willing to help and go the extra mile when needed,” he said.  “The people working for Avista care about their neighbors and are a joy to work with, something non-profits in the future will find out. They do the job right, so SCCHO knows this tournament will be a success.”

Organizers are still looking for business and community partners to participate in the scramble. To register a team or offer support by donating prizes, volunteering or sponsoring the event, contact Swant at (406) 847-1282 or Gallaher at (406) 827-3913
