Avista Makes Significant Progress in Restoring Power in Storm and Fire Areas

Avista has restored power to the majority of customers in Spokane impacted by yesterday’s storm and fires. All but 61 customers have had their power restored, down from a high of approximately 8,000 at the height of the event. Avista expects the remaining customers to have power later this evening.

Approximately two-thirds of the customers in the Colville, Wash., area have had power restored. Over 7,000 were without power at the height of the event. Restoring power to the remaining 2,869 customers, estimated for Saturday or Sunday, is being hampered by the significant number of downed trees and other damage caused by the wind storm, as well as by fires in the primarily rural region.

Area residents are encouraged to check on elderly or infirm neighbors to assure they are safe during the outage.

Avista continues to urge customers to stay away from all downed utility lines, as they may be energized power lines. To report a downed power line or an outage, call Avista at 800-227-9187.
