Avista Offers Hot Weather Energy Tips
Wise use of energy helps you manage your power bill

SPOKANE, Wash. – July 3, 2007: With high temperatures in the holiday forecast, Avista offers a few simple steps that can help you stay comfortable while managing your energy bill. Some steps include:

 Use heat producing appliances such as dishwashers, ovens, ranges and dryers after 7:00 p.m., if possible.
 When cooling is needed, set the thermostat at the highest comfortable setting, 78 degrees or higher, if possible.
 Use an outdoor grill or microwave oven for meal preparation to avoid adding heat in the kitchen.
 Keep blinds and drapes closed during the hottest part of the day to block the sun’s heat. Closing your blinds, shades and curtains can reduce the heat gain from the sun by up to 65 percent.
 Set your ceiling fan to blow air downward to create a cooling wind-chill effect.
