Avista Presents Check for Nearly $38,000 to Medford School District for Energy Efficiency Upgrades
Avista to present check Tuesday, Jan. 20, at 7:00 p.m., at the Medford School Board meeting at South Medford High School cafeteria, 815 S. Oakdale Ave.

Energy efficiency incentives offered by Avista to its customers have resulted in a $38,347 rebate to the Medford School District for upgrades to its facilities at Howard and Wilson Elementary Schools. Under the Avista program, the amount of the rebate is based in part on the calculated first year annual energy savings realized by the school district as a result of the energy efficiency upgrades.

Qualifying upgrades made by the school district include replacing an aged boiler with high efficiency condensing boilers. Avista projects the school district will save over $14,000 annually and reduce its natural gas consumption by 10,900 therms as a result of the energy efficiency steps taken.

Avista Utilities Regional Business Manager Steve Vincent said, “Avista’s energy efficiency rebate program is a win-win situation for the company and for our customers who take advantage of the program. These rebates help fund the customer’s cost to replace older gas equipment or appliances with new energy efficient models. In addition to the Avista rebate, the customer will immediately begin to lower their monthly utility bill through reduced energy use.”

“For those customers unable to budget for equipment or appliance upgrades, there are many low-cost or no-cost efficiency measures that can help manage energy use. Every little bit can make a difference. That’s why Avista developed our everylittlebit.com website, a resource with dozens of tips on reducing energy use, as well as information on our rebates and incentives program,” Vincent said.

In addition to offering energy incentives for commercial operations, Avista also has programs and rebates for residential customers. In 2008, Avista provided about $800,000 in energy efficiency rebates to its Oregon customers for a total energy savings of over 275,000 therms of natural gas.
