Avista Presents Second Annual Charity Golf Tournament
Four-person scramble Aug. 21 to benefit Cancer Network of Sanders County

Aug. 9
, 2010: Avista will host its second annual charity golf tournament to raise awareness of the needs of Sanders County residents, with this year’s tournament to benefit Cancer Network of Sanders County. The four-person scramble will be held at the Rivers Bend Golf Course in Thompson Falls, Saturday, Aug. 21 at 9 a.m.

Cancer Network of Sanders County is a community-based 501(c)(3) tax-exempt charity that provides support to Sanders County residents undergoing cancer treatment. The non-profit was formed to help Sanders County residents with their cancer treatments by providing funds to assist with travel expenses, medications, prostheses, wigs or other related expenses not covered by insurance.

Tim Swant of Avista and Kathy Miller, president of the Cancer Network, are co-chairing the tournament.

“We’re excited to present this tournament for its second year, and look forward to beating last year’s total of more than $6,000 in funds raised for another deserving local charity,” Swant said.

Miller said the organization relies on the generosity of local residents and businesses to further its cause of helping to ease the financial burden of local residents fighting cancer.

“The Cancer Network of Sanders County has helped hundreds of people in our community since 2001,” she said. “We’re thrilled to be working with Avista in this year’s tournament. The people working for Avista are our neighbors, and they live and work right here in Sanders County, so we know they truly care about helping the community.”

This year’s scramble, like last year’s, will also involve local students. Students from the Trout Creek School will provide a picnic lunch of chicken & bacon wraps, salad, chips, lemonade or iced tea, watermelon and dessert, free to registered teams, to help support the school’s science club and eighth-grade class.

Golfers are requested to preregister for the tournament – registration is just $50 per player – and organizers are still looking for business and community partners to sponsor holes for $50 or donate prizes or larger sponsorship amounts. To register a team call Rivers Bend Golf Course at (406) 847-3438. Or, to offer support by donating prizes, volunteering or sponsoring the event, contact Swant at (406) 847-1282 or Miller at (406) 826-4278.
