Avista Takes Precautionary Measures Due to Dry Weather
Temporary operational changes decrease risk of fire

Avista is undertaking temporary changes to how distribution power lines will be operated in response to very dry conditions in our region. The temporary changes are intended to decrease the risk of starting fires when power lines are downed by wind or other causes.

In extremely dry conditions fires can potentially occur when a downed power line is reenergizing in an unknown or dangerous condition. These lines are typically located in rural and/or forested areas. Under the operational changes, the lines will no longer be reenergized automatically. Instead, line personnel may have to physically patrol the outage area before the line is placed back into service.

These changes can not guarantee or eliminate a fire. The changes to Avista’s rural/forested lines may result in some additional outages and if an outage does occur it will take longer to reenergize the line and restore power.

Since these changes affect the reliability of electric service, Avista will return the distribution system to normal as soon as weather permits. Avista appreciates the patience of its customers during this time.
