Avista Takes Precautionary Measures Due to Dry Weather Conditions

SPOKANE, Wash. – August 29, 2006: In response to very dry conditions in our region Avista is undertaking temporary changes to how the distribution power lines will be operated.

These temporary changes are being made to decrease the potential fire danger of reenergizing a downed power line in an unknown or dangerous condition. These lines, typically those located in rural and/or forested areas, will no longer be reenergized automatically. Instead, line personnel may have to physically patrol the outage area before the line is placed back into service.

These changes can not guarantee or eliminate a fire. The changes to Avista’s rural/forested lines may result in some additional outages and if an outage does occur it will take longer to reenergize the line and restore power. Since these changes affect the reliability of electric service, Avista will return the distribution system to normal as soon as weather permits. Avista appreciates the patience of its customers during this time.
