Nov. 25, 2015, 10:00 a.m.: Avista is on track to restore power to the majority of the remaining customers who’ve been without power since near hurricane-force winds blew through the region last week on Nov. 17. The windstorm’s devastation reached historic proportions – by far, it’s the worst natural disaster Avista has experienced in its 126-year history.
For more than a week now, Avista crews, along with contractors and mutual aid crews have been working non-stop to restore power to as many of the remaining 12,000 customers as possible before midnight tonight.
Given the magnitude of devastation in certain areas, we know some customers may not have power for Thanksgiving.
· If you live in the 99205, 99223 and 99203 zip codes, you run a higher risk for not getting your power restored by midnight tonight. These areas were hardest hit by the storm and are the most labor-intensive and difficult to rebuild and restore.
Avista crews will press forward, continuing to work through Thanksgiving. The target is to restore power to these final areas by midnight Friday.
Today more than 100 crews are deployed in Spokane. They will focus on the challenging work to put customers back in service in the hardest hit neighborhoods and zip codes.
At this hour, 93 percent of the 180,000 customers who lost power last Tuesday have had their power restored.
“This has been a trying time for all of us. Words cannot express how grateful I am for the continued patience and understanding of our customers and support from the entire community,” said Avista CEO Scott Morris. “Please know that our crews and support staff will continue working through the Thanksgiving holiday, and we will not rest until we restore power to every customer.”
