Avista helps Grants Pass YMCA save energy and dollars
New energy efficient equipment makes pool area more comfortable while saving energy

Oct. 17, 2012: Swimmers enjoying the Grants Pass YMCA pool will notice less humidity in the air thanks in part to almost $78,000 the organization is receiving in energy efficiency incentives from Avista toward the complete cost for the project.

The energy savings from a new high efficiency dehumidification and ventilation system for the pool area is expected to save the YMCA almost $23,000 per year in energy costs because of reduced natural gas usage. The new system will pull warm moist air from the pool area making the air drier and return the heat to the boiler system to warm the pool water.

The result is reducing the amount of natural gas used by the YMCA by almost 26,000 therms a year. That’s enough natural gas to provide service to 43 Oregon homes for a year.

"We are very pleased to have had the great support of Avista with our new ventilation and dehumidification system for the swimming area. This system is much more efficient than our old system and will help us regulate the air and water temperatures and the humidity. We now are getting consistent temperature settings, making it comfortable for everyone. Thanks Avista,” said Kevin Clark, executive director of the Grants Pass Family YMCA.
Residential, commercial and industrial customers can take advantage of a number of energy efficiency programs Avista offers as a tool to help them reduce their energy use and costs. For over three decades Avista has offered the tariff-based programs because it generally costs less to help customers reduce their usage through energy efficiency programs than to acquire additional, more costly energy resources.
