Avista names Collins Sprague Director of Government Relations

Aug. 16, 2012: Avista has named Collins Sprague as its Director of Government Relations. In this role Sprague will oversee all government, legislative, political and public policy activities as it relates to Avista customers, shareholders and community stakeholders.

For the past 22 years Sprague has served as Avista’s Manager of Washington State Government Relations and has played a pivotal role in energy matters affecting Avista and its customers. Most recently Sprague helped secure passage of legislation that allows Avista to count its Kettle Falls biomass facility as renewable under Initiative I-937, which will save Avista customers millions of dollars over the long-term. In 2010 he received the Ron Gjerde Award as the state’s best business lobbyist of the year. He also currently serves on boards at the Association of Washington Business and the Washington Research Council.

“Collins has demonstrated a great commitment to Avista customers and the communities we serve through his advocacy of energy policy issues and strong relationships with those working in the public arena,” said Jason Thackston, Vice President of Customer Solutions. “He is an effective and respected advisor to Avista and governmental leaders.”

Sprague replaces Avista’s long-time Director of Government Relations, Tom Paine, who retired in early August after more than three decades with the company.

“I look forward to continuing my work on regional and national energy issues on behalf of Avista,” Sprague said. “The opportunity to broaden the scope of my work and move to Spokane is very exciting to me.”
