Avista names Steve Maasch as new senior director of human resources
Senior Director of Human Resources Dan Suttner to retire March 1

Avista announced today that Steve Maasch has joined the company as senior director of human resources. Maasch will take over the position currently held by Dan Suttner who retires March 1, 2011. In his new role, Maasch will lead human resources management in the development and implementation of human resource programs, and oversight of other human resource areas.  

“Steve is an excellent addition to Avista's leadership team," said Karen Feltes, senior vice president of human resources and corporate secretary. "His distinguished track record in the utility business sector and his impressive background in leadership and human resources will be of tremendous value to Avista."

Prior to coming to Avista, Maasch
was vice president of human resources at InfrastruX Group/UtilX Corporation, a multi-industry infrastructure energy solutions organization with more than 5,800 employees and operations in the United States, Germany, United Kingdom, India, Japan and Mexico. In his previous role, Maasch oversaw all human resources, training, safety and legal operations. He brings with him 17 years of experience in human resources. 

Maasch holds a bachelor’s degree in business administration and management from Montana State University.

Retiring senior director of human resources Dan Suttner has been with Avista more than 28 years. Suttner has served in various management and director positions throughout Avista Corp. in areas of company safety, human resources and labor relations, and he served as chairman of Avista’s Labor Management Committee.

“We will miss Dan and want to thank him for his 28 years of service with Avista,” Feltes said. “His leadership in human resources has played an important role in building a strong commitment to safety and labor relations. We wish him the very best in his retirement.”
