Avista offers rebate for qualifying smart thermostats
Find out which manufacturers and models qualify for new rebate

October 8, 2014: Perfect timing! With temperatures dipping and the leaves falling, people are turning up their thermostats. Just in time for heating season, Avista is offering a new rebate for qualifying smart thermostats that will help you use energy wisely.
The rebate amount ranges from $50 to $100, depending on how the smart thermostat is installed. “Do-it-yourself” consumers who can install the smart thermostat themselves qualify for a $50 rebate. If you hire a contractor to install your thermostat, you’ll receive a $100 rebate. Requests for rebates must be submitted within 90 days after installation is completed.
“Many people are looking for ways to spend their energy dollars as wisely as possible. Purchasing and installing a smart thermostat is a simple step that usually makes people more aware of their energy usage. Many of these devices even have an application that allows you to access information and remotely control your thermostat from your smart phone. Providing a rebate for smart thermostats is one way Avista can encourage our customers to be energy efficient,” said Chris Drake, Avista’s manager of energy efficiency programs.
To qualify for the smart thermostat rebate, some specific criteria must be met, including:
·         Washington state Avista customers must use electricity or natural gas for heating. Idaho customers must use electricity for heating.
·         Usage requirements - at least 4,000 kilowatt-hours of space heat must have been used during the previous heating season. Natural gas heated homes must have used at least 160 therms of heat during the previous heating season.
·         Your home must have Wi-Fi to enable the smart thermostat.
·         Only certain equipment is eligible for the smart thermostat rebates. See the complete list of requirements, eligible manufacturers and models at www.avistautilities.com/tstats
