Visitors are invited to stop by Avista’s booth at the Lentil Festival Street Fair, Friday night only, Aug. 21, to pick up a free energy efficient compact fluorescent light bulb (CFL) along with low-flow showerheads, as long as supplies last. Avista staff will be answering questions on energy efficiency, weatherization and wise energy choices to reduce overall energy consumption in the home.
Wattson, an energy conservation and safety program for kids of all ages, invites families to join him at the parade on Saturday. Wattson and his sidekick Edison combine fun with good energy saving tips to encourage everyone to be careful with the energy we use in our homes.
Lighting accounts for about a quarter of our nation’s energy consumption. CFLs use up to 75 percent less energy than incandescent bulbs, but provide the same amount of light. They are more efficient in their use of energy, turning more of their energy into light and less into heat, and can be used throughout a home in a variety of wattages. CFLs last up to seven times longer than an incandescent bulb (7,000 hours vs. 1,000 hours). “This is an easy and cost effective way to reduce energy use,” said Camille Martin, program manager for Avista. “We’re looking forward to sharing some tips with customers and helping them find ways to manage their energy use.”
Low-flow showerheads can achieve water savings of up to 60 percent, depending on the showerhead. The low flow showerhead’s flow control technology gives great pressure with less water use. You can’t tell you’re using less water.
