Avista to Host Energy Fair at Northeast Community Center
February 8th event will provide information on energy efficiency, weatherization and bill assistance

Feb 1, 2012 The Northeast Community Center in Spokane is the location for the next Avista Energy Fair scheduled for Wednesday, Feb. 8, 2012, from 3 p.m. until 6 p.m. The community center is located at 4001 North Cook St. The event will be filled with demonstrations of ways to keep homes warm and safe this winter. In addition, Avista employees will be available to share information about billing assistance and payment options. Community organizations, including SNAP, Spokane County United Way, Money Management International, WorkSource, Aging and Long-term Care of Eastern Washington and Community Frameworks are scheduled to be on hand to answer questions and provide helpful information about weatherization programs, budgeting and financial services, earned income tax credit and free tax preparation, job search programs, services for seniors and those with disabilities, affordable housing and more.

Free admission to the event includes all demonstrations, free samples of energy efficiency materials, complimentary food and beverages, and door prizes.

“Each year our customers ask for help in managing their energy use and costs during the winter. The energy fair will offer a broad range of ideas and demonstrations that will help residents keep the warm air inside and the cold air outside their homes,” said Anne Marie Axworthy, Avista’s director of consumer affairs. “This event provides a great way for customers to conveniently access Avista’s many services, as well as valuable community resources. Information about payment options, energy assistance and energy efficiency will be especially helpful to those struggling to pay their bills.”

Fair attendees can speak with Avista staff and learn first-hand about low-cost and no-cost energy efficiency tips. They’ll see how to install such things as rope caulk, window plastic and door sweeps. And following each demonstration, Avista employees will answer questions and provide free samples of each item used in the demonstration.

For the kids, and the kids at heart, Wattson, Avista’s Energy Watchdog, will guide attendees through fun, energy-focused crafts and presentations of his musical message of energy efficiency and safety.

Avista Utilities will make every effort to provide reasonable accommodations for individuals with disabilities. Please contact Lisa at 509-495-8024 or email
lisa.lee@avistacorp.com if accommodations are needed.
