Avista to Install New Pedestrian Bridge in Riverfront Park
Work is part of upgrade for downtown power supply

Avista will install a new pedestrian bridge over the Riverfront Park theme stream on Thursday afternoon, March 13. Two sections of the bridge weighing 56,000 pounds each will be hoisted into place by a large crane.

Avista is replacing an 85 year old underground electricity distribution system in Riverfront Park. The new bridge will also serve as a conduit for the power cables which will run through pipes embedded in the bridge.

The distribution project is intended to improve reliability of electrical service to the downtown area. The line brings power from the Upper Falls generating station to the Post Street substation building where it is distributed to customers.

Work has been underway on the project since last fall. It is scheduled for completion in April.
