Avista to begin testing new turbine generators at Nine Mile Dam
Water levels in the Nine Mile Reservoir will be affected over the next two months

SPOKANE, Wash. – July 5, 2016:  Based on the completion schedule for the Nine Mile Hydroelectric Facility upgrade project that began in 2014, Avista is ready to test the newly installed generator turbines. This work will begin on July 10 and be completed by the end of August.

The public can expect Nine Mile Reservoir to drop as much as four feet for a couple of days during this period of time.  Other shallower, short-term drawdowns will occur as well during the testing process.  In addition to the drawdowns, discharge from the dam will vary as Avista lowers and refills the reservoir to complete the turbine tests.

During the drawdown period, Avista asks that landowners secure docks and plan recreation activities with this in mind. Please remember water levels and conditions around the dam are subject to change at any time.  River users should exercise caution whenever using the waterways.

Please note, that in addition to the turbine tests, Avista will need to complete maintenance on the dam later this fall, which will also require short-term drawdowns.  We will provide advance notice of those drawdowns prior to completing the work.
