Bonner and Boundary County Food Banks Receive Annual Grants from Avista
Lewiston Community Action Agency will distribute additional Avista support to food banks in Kootenai, Benewah, Shoshone, Clearwater, Idaho, Latah, Nez Perce and Asotin Counties

Dec. 20, 2010
:  Avista and the Avista Foundation have made annual grants totaling $24,500 to 39 food banks within its service territory. Grants of $340 each have been made to four food banks in Bonner and Boundary counties in Idaho: Bayview Bible Chapel, Athol; Bonner Community Food Center, Sandpoint; Priest River Food Bank and West Bonner County Food Bank, Priest River. In addition, the Lewiston, Idaho, Community Action Partnership, will administer $340 grants to other food banks in Community Action Partnerships in Kootenai, Benewah, Shoshone, Boundary, Bonner, Clearwater, Idaho, Latah, Lewis, Nez Perce and Asotin counties. Funding for these grants comes from shareholder funds and is not charged to customers through retail rates.

Through buying power and relationships with food producers, the food banks are able to leverage donations to bring several times their value to help stock the shelves for those in need. We are always impressed with the wonderful work that goes on in the community food banks in our service territory,” said Anne Marie Axworthy, president of Avista Foundation. “Helping limited income families and seniors meet their nutritional needs is an important part of Avista’s and Avista Foundation’s emphasis on providing assistance and helping to reduce poverty in the communities served by Avista Utilities.”
