The Southern Oregon Mission of Mercy dental clinic receives a $2,500 grant from The Avista Foundation

Oct. 4, 2012: Too often, many in our region go without proper dental care. It is a problem that can have severe long-term effects. In Southern Oregon, 25 percent of children live in poverty and one out of every five adults is without health insurance. The team at the Southern Oregon Mission of Mercy’s Dental Foundation of Oregon (DFO) works to improve the oral health of Oregon’s under-served children through its non-profit dental clinics and advocacy programs. A grant of $2,500 to the Southern Oregon Mission of Mercy (Dental Foundation of Oregon) helped fund the recent two-day dental clinic in Medford, Ore., which provided vital dental care to more than 1,000 adults and children.

“We support and recognize the outstanding volunteer work of dental professionals who give thousands of hours of their personal time and help deliver millions of dollars of donated dental services every year for our neediest adults and children,” said James Catt, DMD, chairman of the event and Medford dentist. “Partners like Avista are vital to the sustainability of our mission, and we applaud their partnership in meeting the needs of the communities in Oregon.”

“The wellness and health of those in the communities we serve is an important focus area for our donations,” said Steve Vincent, Avista regional business manager, for Oregon. “We are proud to be a part of events like the DFO’s dental clinic that provide critical services in our region.”
