Eastern Washington Food Banks Receive Year-End Grants from Avista Foundation
Organizations in Lincoln, Adams and Grant counties get support

Year-end giving is not uncommon, and it’s precisely this time of year that food banks in our region receive increased requests for assistance. To help meet those seasonal needs, the Avista Foundation has made grants of $340 each to support 10 eastern Washington-area food banks: Washington Gorge Action Programs, Bingen; Lincoln County Care and Share, Davenport; Connell Food Bank; Odessa Food Bank; Othello Food Bank; Ritzville Food Pantry; Warden Food Pantry; Cheney Food Bank; Sprague-Lamont 4-H Club; and Valley Food Pantry.

These grants are part of Avista’s roughly $1.2 million foundation and corporate giving in 2009 in support of communities in our service area.

“Through the great work of the food bank staff and volunteers, these grants often can leverage many times their value in stocking the food bank shelves. We are pleased to partner with the communities in which we serve electric and natural gas customers, where they are working hard to meet the needs of the growing number of people who have recently lost their jobs or are otherwise impacted by the rising costs of everything from food to energy.” said Anne Marie Axworthy, president of Avista Foundation. “Helping low income families and seniors meet their nutritional needs is an important part of Avista Foundation’s emphasis on providing assistance and helping to reduce poverty in the communities served by Avista Utilities.”
