Avista and Kootenai Electric Cooperative (KEC) are advising customers that there will be a planned power outage impacting a portion of Lake Coeur d’Alene on Tuesday, Sept. 1. The outage will begin at 3:30 a.m. and is expected to last until about 7:30 a.m.

Approximately 760 Avista customers on the east side of Lake Coeur d’Alene from Carling Bay south to Ogara Bay, including the City of Harrison and customers on Hells Gulch Road will be impacted by the outage. About 575 KEC members on the southeast side of Lake Coeur d’Alene and in the Harrison area will also be impacted.

The planned outage will allow Avista crews to work in a safe environment as construction continues on increasing the capacity and reliability of its Ogara substation. A second planned outage will be required in mid-September to complete the project. The upgrade is necessary to meet growing customer demand in the Lake Coeur d’Alene area. Some KEC members are also served from the Avista substation.

“We apologize for the inconvenience to our customers, as well as those of Kootenai Electric. We’ll work as quickly and safely as possible so that customers will have their service restored with minimum inconvenience,” said Bob Beitz, Avista construction manager.
