Post Falls Boat Ramp to Open for Summer
Operations are subject to weather conditions

Spokane, Wash., June 23// -- Avista has closed spill gates at the Post Falls Hydroelectric Development for normal summer operations. The boat ramp at Q'emiln (Ka-mee-lin) Park will now remain open for the remainder of the season, subject to weather conditions.

The level of Coeur d'Alene Lake is currently at the normal summer elevation. Avista will attempt to maintain a level near 2,128 ft. above sea level through Labor Day.

Boaters should be aware that heavy precipitation may require opening the spill gates to avoid flooding. In that case city regulations require that the boat ramp be closed until the spill gates are shut again.

All river users are reminded to stay away from the areas immediately above and below the dam. Be aware that water levels and currents can change very quickly. When on the water obey all warning signs, follow all rules and regulations, and use common sense.

To protect yourself and your companions when recreating on or along a river or lake, always follow these important safety tips:
. Always be alert for debris, obstructions and partially submerged objects that may be a result of spring run-off and high water conditions.
. Always obey warning signs near dams.
. Never cross boater restraint cables or buoy lines that designate areas where boats should not operate. The closer a boat or individual gets to a dam or powerhouse, the more hazardous it becomes.
. Never fish, swim or boat above or below a dam – water levels can change rapidly with the operation of spillgates and turbines.
?. If in a sailboat or catamaran, always look for overhead cables and power lines.
?. Always wear personal flotation devices (PFDs), even if you are an adult.
. Remember that water is extremely cold in spring. Know the symptoms of hypothermia.
. Be alert to strong currents and undertows.
. Never operate watercraft under the influence of drugs or alcohol.
. Never anchor your boat below a dam.
