Public Access to Spokane River to Reopen at Post Falls
Spill gates at Post Falls Dam will close at 9am Wednesday

June 25, 2013: Inflows into Coeur d’Alene Lake have leveled off and prompted Avista to announce it will close all spill gates at the Post Falls Dam at 9am Wednesday, June 26. This means the City of Post Falls boat launch and swim beach at Q’emiln Park will be open to the public. For public safety reasons, whenever any of the spill gates at the Post Falls Dam are open, river recreation is prohibited in the area between the Spokane Street Bridge and the Post Falls Dam.

Heavy rain last week required Avista to open the spill gate at Post Falls Dam on June 20 to help manage water levels. It’s a reminder that sudden changes to water levels and river flows can occur when weather conditions change, and Avista may need to respond quickly and adjust Post Falls Dam operations accordingly.

Once the spill gates are closed tomorrow, Avista expects summer operation at the dam to continue through Labor Day, as long as weather conditions allow.
