Avista has announced the establishment of scholarships through its Avista Scholars Program for students pursuing certain fields of study in regional colleges and universities in its three-state service area. The scholarships are funded through the Avista Foundation, a philanthropic endowment that is separate from shareholder and customer funds.
“The mission of the Avista Scholars Program is focused on promoting excellence in the fields of math, science, technology and engineering, leading students to become innovators, problem solvers and talented employees of our future,” said Anne Marie Axworthy, president of the Avista Foundation. “We are committed to developing a diverse workforce for the future, and we see these scholarships as one means to capture the attention and interest of students in our region.”
The following scholarship opportunities are available by contacting the financial aid offices of the respective schools:
Gonzaga University, Washington State University and University of Idaho:
Scholarships are available for college juniors and seniors majoring in electrical engineering with an emphasis in power engineering.
Eastern Washington University: Scholarships are available for college juniors and seniors majoring in Management Information Systems (MIS).
Community Colleges of Spokane: Bob Smith Memorial Scholarship available to students in line construction (Pre-Apprenticeship Program), civil engineering technology, and other similar fields of study. The Bob Smith Memorial Scholarship honors the late Avista Journeyman Lineman Bob Smith who exemplified professional excellence and dedication to community service throughout his career.
Scholarships are also available through the Avista Scholars Program in fields of study that relate to Avista’s business operations, including accounting, biology, economics, engineering, natural resources, and other pertinent majors. These scholarships are available for qualified students enrolled in the following regional colleges: Walla Walla Community College (Clarkston Branch), Eastern Oregon State College, North Idaho College, Lewis-Clark State College, Oregon Institute of Technology and Southern Oregon State College.
