Sojourner’s Alliance receives grant from Avista Foundation
Funds will support shelter operations


 SPOKANE, Wash.  Sept. XX, 2007:  The board of directors for the Avista Foundation recently approved a grant of $2,500 to the Sojourner’s Alliance in Moscow, Idaho, for general support of the organization.  Sojourner’s Alliance is the only shelter available to homeless individuals and families between Moscow and Boise, and provides case management, education and counseling, in addition to affordable housing opportunities to those in need.


“One of our primary concerns is in the area of poverty and supporting those programs that not only assist those in need, but also helping individuals and families become self-sufficient,” said Anne Marie Axworthy, Avista Foundation president and chair of the board. “We have confidence in the leadership of the Sojourner’s Alliance and know that these funds will be used effectively.”


The Avista Foundation, established in 2002, focuses its giving on grants that strengthen communities and enhance the quality of life for people served by Avista Utilities in eastern Washington, northern Idaho, southern Oregon and Sanders County, Montana. The foundation focuses its giving in the areas of:

·        education – K-12 education particularly in the fields of science, math and technology; and higher education including scholarships,

·        vulnerable and limited income populations – providing assistance to those on limited incomes and support for initiatives to reduce poverty,

·        economic and cultural vitality – supporting projects that help communities and citizens to grow and prosper.
