Aug. 23, 2011: Taylor and Sons Chevrolet has made a number of energy efficient building decisions that will earn them an incentive check from Avista for over $20,000. The funds will be put toward the construction of their new 20,000 square foot automobile dealership in Ponderay, Idaho.

Qualifying energy efficiency measures incorporated into the new facility include installation of

• high efficiency windows,
• R-42 roof insulation,
• energy efficient cooling system and
• R-20 concrete insulation.

“With Avista’s help we were able to design and construct a building that not only is energy efficient but also more pleasant for our employees and customers, and better for the environment,” said Brett Taylor, general manager of Taylor and Sons Chevrolet. “Our new facility is also currently in application for LEED (Leadership in Energy and Environmental Design) certification. We anticipate being the first franchised automobile dealership in the state of Idaho to achieve this certification.”

By incorporating energy efficient systems within the new facility, the dealership is expected to save over 100,000 kilowatt-hours (kWh) each year -- enough to power eight homes per year -- which would equal an annual energy savings of $5,000..

“Investing in energy efficient systems in the development of a new building makes a lasting positive impact for the organization and the environment,” said Sharmon Schmitt, account executive for Avista. “The dealership is a great example of how every little bit of energy saved can add up to make a big difference.”

Avista offers a variety of energy management tools and services for residential, commercial and industrial customers. For over three decades Avista has offered the tariff-based programs because, generally, it costs less to help customers reduce their usage through energy efficiency programs than to acquire additional, more costly energy resources to meet the growing energy needs of customers.
